Many of these geometric patterns were originally created by James Radley Young in the mid 1910's and then later adapted by Truda Carter.  The bowls and vases here are all examples from the late 1920's and early 1930's

As with the geometric patterns above, the first appearance of simple "sprig" patterns on vases at Poole predate the introduction of the elaborate designs.  However, the examples shown here are from the 1930's and similar sprig decorations were still in use on vases and tableware over 30 years later.

V Pattern, AKA Leo the Lion, due to the appearance of the cheeky chappie with the rather psychedelic blue mane in place of the blue flower.  Several other Truda Carter patterns also have acronyms that refer to the pictographic ambiguity within the designs.

The Grape Pattern above was designed by Erna Manners in 1921 and was the forerunner of the many elaborate designs that followed.

Traditional Poole Pottery was in the main decorated with geometric shapes and abstract Floral patterns.  Birds of several different kinds and rather grand deer.  Lower down the food chain, the FL pattern coffee can and egg cup above feature a blue and yellow slug, with a (possibly half eaten) cubist/split image abstract flower.
